ORGANIC CLAIMS & LABELING IN THE U.S.

when you see:

"100% ORGANIC"

it means:

shall not be made with or contain any product that has been treated with or grown in soil containing chemicals, herbicides, and pesticides.

when you see:

"ORGANIC"

it means:

product has at least 95% organic ingredients and is supported with USDA seal to verify.

when you see:

"MADE WITH ORGANIC INGREDIENTS"

it means:

product has no USDA seal; at least 70% of ingredients must be organic.

organic agriculture produces products using methods that preserve the environment and avoid most synthetic materials, like pesticides and antibiotics.

in the US, we have the USDA. the USDA organic standards describe how farmers grow crops and raise livestock and which materials that may use.

food labels and packaging can be overwhelming, to say the least, and marketing is not always put out with the consumers health in mind.
