DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS

Nutrient deficiencies can occur even when food supplies and nutrient-rich foods are readily available.

And the average diet lacks fruits, veggies, whole grains, and micronutrients.

WHAT IS A DIETARY SUPPLEMENT?

A dietary supplement is a product (taken by mouth) containing a "dietary ingredient" intended to supplement the diet - to reiterate... not to replace, but the supplement nutrients in your diet you may not be getting adequate amounts of.

TYPES OF SUPPLEMENTS:

vitamins & minerals

botanicals (herbs)

sports nutrition

weight management

specialty

FORMS OF SUPPLEMENTS:

*tablets

*capsules

softgels

liquids & tinctures

extracts

powders

bars

drinks, etc.

*Capsules Vs. Tablets

- Liquid Capsules can be hard-shell and soft gel. Soft gels are easily broken down; the liquid reaches the bloodstream quickly after ingestion. Hard-shell are 2 pieces put together with the liquid / active ingredients positioned in the middle.

- Tablets are granulated powder, tightly pressed to form a hard pill. They are either coated with sugar or film or uncoated.

- Liquid capsules are absorbed quicker into the body than tablets. Tablets can take 20-30 minutes to dissolve and be absorbed.

Disclaimer: please remember that just because you see influencers taking a supplement, does not mean you need to also.

As with any supplement, I recommend seeking guidance from your qualified health practitioner. It is out of my scope of practice to prescribe, however, I am here as a resource.
